Automatic Transaxle: Removal
CAUTION:
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
NOTE:
- Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid mis-connection.
- Disconnect the battery terminals and then remove battery.
- Remove the battery and battery tray (A).
- Remove the intake air hose and air cleaner assembly.
- Disconnect the AFS (Air Flow Sensor) connector (A).
- Disconnect the breather hose (B) from intake air hose (D).
- Remove the intake air hose (D) and air cleaner upper cover (C).
- Disconnect the ECM connector (A, B).
- Remove the air cleaner element and lower cover (C).
- Remove the ATF (Automatic transaxle fluid) cooler hose (A).
- Remove the transaxle ground cable (A).
- Remove the transaxle wire harness connectors and control cable from transaxle.
- Disconnect the transaxle range switch connector (A).
- Disconnect the solenoid valve connector (B).
- Disconnect the fluid temperature sensor connector (C).
- Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor connector (A).
- Disconnect the band servo switch connector (B).
- Disconnect the pulse generator A connector (C).
- Disconnect the pulse generator B connector (D).
- Remove the control cable nut (A) from transaxle range switch.
- Remove the control cable (B).
- Remove the power steering oil hose (A) and drain the power steering oil.
- Remove the power steering return hose (A).
- Install the special tools (09200-38001), the engine support fixture and the adapter, on the engine assembly.
- Remove the transaxle mounting support bracket (A).
TORQUE:
70-95 N.m (700-950 kgf.cm, 50-69 lb-ft)
- Remove the front roll stopper mounting bolt (A).
TORQUE:
50-65 N.m (500-650 kgf.cm, 36-47 lb-ft)
- Remove the rear roll stopper mounting bolt (A).
TORQUE:
50-65 N.m (500-650 kgf.cm, 36-47 lb-ft)
- Remove the under cover (A).
- Remove the side cover.
- Remove the front wheel.
- Remove the drain plug (A) and drain the automatic transaxle fluid.
TORQUE:
35-45 N.m (350-450 kgf.cm, 25-32 lb-ft)
- Separate the tie rod end (A) from the pin (B) and nut (C).
- Remove the ABS wheel speed sensor (A).
- Remove the front caliper (A) and use a wire to secure the caliper to the vehicle so that it is out of the way.
- Remove the knuckle mounting bolts (A).
- Remove the drive shaft (A) from the transaxle.
- Remove the steering U-joint mounting bolt (A).
- Install the jack (A) for supporting transaxle.NOTE: When supporting the transaxle assembly, make sure that the weight is applied to a wide area of the jack surface.
- Remove the sub-frame bolt (A) and nut (B).
TORQUE:
Bolts (A): 40-50 N.m (400-550 Kgf.cm, 29-40 lb-ft)
Nuts (B): 160-180 N.m (1600-1800 Kgf.cm, 110-126 lb-ft)
- Remove the start motor mounting bolt (A).
TORQUE:
27-34 N.m (270-340 kgf.cm, 19-24 lb-ft)
- Remove the engine to the torque converter mounting bolts (A). (4EA).
TORQUE:
46-53 N.m (460-530 kgf.cm, 33-38 lb-ft)
- Remove the engine to automatic transaxle mounting bolts (A).
TORQUE:
Bolts (12 mm): 60-80 N.m (600-800 Kgf.cm, 43-58 lb-ft)
Bolts (10 mm): 43-55 N.m (430-550 Kgf.cm, 32-41 lb-ft)
- Remove the transaxle assembly.CAUTION: Be careful not damage the other parts during removal.
