Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Drain the coolant.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "COOLANT ")

  2. Remove the air duct and the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  3. Remove the battery and battery tray.

    (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "BATTERY REMOVAL ")

  4. Disconnect the main connector (A) and position switch connector (B).

  5. Remove the shift cable (C) after loosening the nut (A) and bolts (B).

    Tightening torque  :

    1. 9.8 - 14.7 N.m (1.0 - 1.5 kgf.m, 7.2 - 10.8 lb.ft)
    2. 14.7 - 21.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.2 kgf.m, 10.9 - 15.9 lb.ft)

  6. Loosen the wiring bracket mounting bolt (A).

  7. Remove the ground line after loosening the bolt (A).

  8. Remove the wiring bracket loosening the bolt (A).

    Tightening torque  :

    14.7 - 21.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.2 kgf.m, 10.9 - 15.9 lb.ft)

  9. Separate the coolant hose (A) and then remove the coolant pipe bracket mounting bolt (B).

    Tightening torque  :

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  10. Remove the CKP sensor (A) loosening the bolt.

    Tightening torque  :

    6.9 - 9.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.1 - 7.2 lb.ft)

  11. Remove the transaxle upper mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque  :

    1. 32.4 ~ 49.0 N.m (3.3 ~ 5.0 kgf.m, 23.9 ~ 36.2 lb-ft)
    2. 63.7 ~ 83.4 N.m (6.5 ~ 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 ~ 61.5 lb-ft)

  12. Assemble the engine support fixture on the engine room.

    (Refer to Special Service Tools - "ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE ASSEMBLY DRAWING ")

  13. Support the transaxle on a jack.

  14. Remove the cover (A).

  15. Remove the transaxle mounting bracket bolts (A).

    Tightening torque  :

    88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb.ft)

  16. Remove the transaxle support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque  :

    58.9 - 78.5 N.m (6.0 - 8.0 kgf.m, 43.4 - 57.9 lb.ft)

  17. Remove the under cover.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  18. Remove the drive shaft assembly.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  19. Separate the coolant hose (A) and then remove the coolant pipe bracket mounting bolt (B).

    Tightening torque  :

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  20. Remove the starter mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque  :

    49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)

  21. Remove the cover (A).

    Tightening torque  :

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  22. Remove the torque converter mounting bolts (A-6 pcs) by rotating the crankshaft.

    Tightening torque  :

    45.1 - 52.0 N.m (4.6 - 5.3 kgf.m, 33.3 - 38.3 lb.ft)

  23. Support the transaxle safely on a jack.
  24. Remove the roll rod bracket (C) after loosening the bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque  :

    1. 107.9 - 127.5 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb.ft)
    2. 49.0 - 63.7 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)

    NOTE: Replace bolt (B) with a new one or install after applying sealant (3M 2353) as shown below.

  25. Remove the roll rod support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque  :

    49.0 - 68.6 N.m (5.0 - 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 50.6 lb.ft)

  26. Remove the transaxle lower mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque  :

    1. 39.2 - 46.1 N.m (4.0 - 4.7 kgf.m, 28.9 - 34.0 lb.ft)
    2. 78.5 - 98.1 N.m (8.0 - 10.0 kgf.m, 57.9 - 72.3 lb.ft)

  27. After separating the transaxle from the engine, remove the transaxle by lowering the jack slowly.
    NOTE: Be careful not to damage other nearby systems or parts when removing the transaxle assembly.
