Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Drain the coolant.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "COOLANT ")

  2. Remove the air duct and the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  3. Remove the battery and battery tray.

    (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "BATTERY ")

  4. Perform the procedures below according to shift lever type.

    SBW (Shift By Wire) 

    1. Disconnect the connectors (A, B, C) and remove the wiring fixing clip.
      1. Main connector
      2. Position sensor connector
      3. Electronic shift actuator

    SBC (Shift By Cable) 

    1. Disconnect the position switch connector (A) and main connector (B).

    2. Remove the shift cable (C) by loosening the nut (A) and bolts (B).

      Tightening torque: 

      1. 9.8 - 14.7 N.m (1.0 - 1.5 kgf.m, 7.2 - 10.8 lb.ft)
      2. 14.7 - 21.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.2 kgf.m, 10.9 - 15.9 lb.ft)

  5. Loosen the wiring bracket mounting bolt (A).

  6. Remove the ground line after loosening the bolt (A).

  7. Remove the wiring bracket loosening the bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    14.7 - 21.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.2 kgf.m, 10.9 - 15.9 lb.ft)

  8. Separate the coolant hose (A) and then remove the coolant pipe bracket mounting bolt (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  9. Remove the CKP sensor (A) loosening the bolt.

    Tightening torque: 

    6.9 - 9.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.1 - 7.2 lb.ft)

  10. Remove the transaxle upper mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 32.4 ~ 49.0 N.m (3.3 ~ 5.0 kgf.m, 23.9 ~ 36.2 lb-ft)
    2. 63.7 ~ 83.4 N.m (6.5 ~ 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 ~ 61.5 lb-ft)

  11. Assemble the engine support fixture on the engine room.

    (Refer to Special Service Tools - "ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE ASSEMBLY DRAWING ")

  12. Support the transaxle on a jack.

  13. Remove the cover (A).

  14. Remove the transaxle mounting bracket bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb.ft)

  15. Remove the transaxle support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    58.9 - 78.5 N.m (6.0 - 8.0 kgf.m, 43.4 - 57.9 lb.ft)

  16. Remove the under cover.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  17. Remove the drive shaft assembly.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  18. Separate the coolant hose (A) and then remove the coolant pipe bracket mounting bolt (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  19. Remove the starter mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)

  20. Remove the cover (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  21. Remove the torque converter mounting bolts (A-6 pcs) by rotating the crankshaft.

    Tightening torque: 

    45.1 - 52.0 N.m (4.6 - 5.3 kgf.m, 33.3 - 38.3 lb.ft)

  22. Support the transaxle safely on a jack.
  23. Remove the roll rod bracket (C) after loosening the bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 107.9 - 127.5 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb.ft)
    2. 49.0 - 63.7 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)

    NOTE: Replace bolt (B) with a new one or install after applying sealant (3M 2353) as shown below.

  24. Remove the roll rod support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 68.6 N.m (5.0 - 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 50.6 lb.ft)

  25. Remove the transaxle lower mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 39.2 - 46.1 N.m (4.0 - 4.7 kgf.m, 28.9 - 34.0 lb.ft)
    2. 78.5 - 98.1 N.m (8.0 - 10.0 kgf.m, 57.9 - 72.3 lb.ft)

  26. After separating the transaxle from the engine, remove the transaxle by lowering the jack slowly.
    NOTE: Be careful not to damage other nearby systems or parts when removing the transaxle assembly.
