Removal And Installation: Removal

  1. Remove the engine room under cover.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  2. Drain the coolant.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "COOLANT ")

  3. Remove the battery.

    (Refer to Body Electrical System - "BATTERY ")

  4. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY ")

  5. Remove the battery tray.

    (Refer to Body Electrical System - "BATTERY ")

  6. Disconnect the main connector (A) and position switch connector (B) and then remove the wiring fixing clip (C) from the bracket.

  7. Remove the shift cable (C) after removing the nut (A) and bolts (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 9.8 - 14.7 N.m (1.0 - 1.5 kgf.m, 7.2 - 10.8 lb.ft)
    2. 14.7 - 21.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.2 kgf.m, 10.9 - 15.9 lb.ft)

  8. Remove the wiring bracket bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  9. Remove the wiring (B) after removing the wiring bracket bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  10. Remove the ground cable bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    26.5 - 32.4 N.m (2.7 - 3.3 kgf.m, 19.5 - 23.9 lb.ft)

  11. Separate the coolant hose (A) and then remove the coolant pipe bolt (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  12. Separate the coolant hose (A).

  13. Separate the ATF cooler hose (A).

    NOTE:
    • Be careful not to cause any damage on the hose when tightening the clamp.
    • Mount the clamp tightening part in the designated direction so that interference does not occur with the adjacent parts.
    • After connecting the hose, check for oil leakage on the connecting part while the engine is on.
  14. Remove the CKP sensor (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    6.9 - 9.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.1 - 7.2 lb.ft)

  15. Remove the transaxle upper bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 32.4 - 49.0 N.m (3.3 - 5.0 kgf.m, 23.9 - 36.2 lb.ft)
    2. 63.7 - 83.4 N.m (6.5 - 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 - 61.5 lb.ft)

  16. Remove the cowl top cover.

    (Refer to Body - "COWL TOP COVER ")

  17. Assemble the engine support fixture in the engine room.

    (Refer to Special Service Tools - "ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE ASSEMBLY DRAWING ")

  18. Support the automatic transaxle with a jack.

  19. Remove the cover (A).

  20. Remove the automatic transaxle mounting bracket bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb.ft)

  21. Remove the automatic transaxle support bracket (A) after removing the bolts.

    Tightening torque: 

    58.8 - 78.5 N.m (6.0 - 8.0 kgf.m, 43.4 - 57.9 lb.ft)

  22. Remove the front sub frame.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "FRONT SUB FRAME ")

  23. Remove the front driveshaft assembly.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  24. Remove the transfer assembly. [AWD only]

    (Refer to 4 Wheel Drive System - "FRONT WHEEL TRANSFER ASSEMBLY ")

  25. Disconnect the EOP connector (A).

  26. Remove the dust cover (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  27. Remove the torque converter bolts (A) by rotating the crankshaft in clockwise direction.

    Tightening torque: 

    45.1 - 52.0 N.m (4.6 - 5.3 kgf.m, 33.3 - 38.3 lb.ft)

  28. Remove the roll rod support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 68.6 N.m (5.0 - 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 50.6 lb.ft)

  29. Remove the starter bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)

  30. Support the transaxle safely by using the jack.
  31. Remove the transaxle lower bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    (A): 39.2 - 46.1 N.m (4.0 - 4.7 kgf.m, 28.9 - 34.0 lb.ft)

    (B): 78.5 - 98.1 N.m (8.0 - 10.0 kgf.m, 57.9 - 72.3 lb.ft)

  32. After separating the transaxle from the engine, remove the transaxle by lowering the jack slowly.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage other nearby systems or parts when removing the transaxle assembly.
