Code 21: Tune Select Resistor

NOTE: Use continuity test guide for symbol reference. See Figure .

To suit individual market requirements, a tune select resistor is connected across terminals No. 5 and 27 of ECM. See appropriate WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Tune select resistor is located adjacent to ECM, and strapped to EFI cable assembly. See Fig 1 . Value of resistor is dependent on market application. For U.S.A. models, resistor value is 3900 ohms, with White wire. Code 21 identifies that the tune select resistor is open circuit. To test tune select resistor, see Fig 2 . Vehicles produced after VIN No. 451518 (plant sequential numbers) were fitted with a new Engine Control Module (ECM). This ECM no longer required a tune select resistor. The tune select resistor was eliminated and code 21 was no longer stored by the new ECM.
