Continuity Test Procedure (1987-88)

The continuity procedure and instructions must be followed precisely to prevent damage occurring to any of fuel system components. To enable tests to be carried out when 40-pin connector is connected to Engine Control Module (ECM), it is necessary to remove two screws securing shroud to connector to enable multimeter probes to be inserted into back of appropriate pin.

CAUTION: Tests that require connector to be removed from ECM, must also have meter probes inserted into back of connector. If probes are inserted into connector sockets, damage will occur to sockets resulting in poor connections when connector is reconnected.
  1. Remove ECM, and harness connector from beneath front right seat, access is gained through rear opening of seat base.
  2. Remove connector shroud and maneuver it along harness until there is enough clearance enabling meter probes to be inserted into back of connector.
  3. There are 4 pin numbers (1, 13, 28, 40) molded onto rear of connector for pin position identification. See Fig 1 . Pins 1 to 13 top row. Pins 14 to 27 center row (Pin 14 is below pin 13 but is not identified on rear of connector). Pins 28 to 40 bottom row. Pin wire colors are identified in ENGINE CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION (1987-88)  table.
