Bleeding Procedure

WARNING: If modulator has been replaced, it is necessary to use Land Rover TestBook to ensure all air is bled from modulator. Follow TestBook procedure.
NOTE: Brake system may be bled using Land Rover TestBook or bled manually using following procedure. Following procedure is for bleeding complete system, but it should be possible to partially bleed system if only a brakeline or hose has been disconnected with a minimal loss of fluid. DO NOT let brake fluid level in brake master cylinder fall below MIN during procedure.
  1. Raise and support front of vehicle. Ensure fluid in brake master cylinder is filled to MAX mark. Connect bleeder hose and container to right front caliper bleed screw. Submerge free end of bleeder hose in container containing clean brake fluid. Go to next step.
  2. Slowly pump brake pedal several times, then hold down. Open bleeder screw. Allow pedal to return unassisted. Go to next step.
  3. Depress brake pedal steadily through its full stroke and allow to return unassisted. Repeat procedure until a flow of clean bubble-free fluid comes out as pedal is depressed. While depressing brake pedal, close caliper bleed screw. Go to next step.
  4. Top off fluid to MAX mark. Bleed all wheels following same procedure in following order: RF, LF, RR and LR. After all wheels are bled, apply brakes and check for leakage. Lower vehicle and road test. Check brake pedal for short, firm travel when applied.
