Bleeding Procedure

NOTE: If bleeding brake system with pressure bleeder, follow equipment manufacturer's instructions. Ensure pressure does not exceed 65 psi (5 kg/cm2 ).
  1. Depressurize brake system. See DEPRESSURIZING BRAKE SYSTEM  . Turn ignition off and remove ignition key from ignition switch. Fill brake fluid reservoir to MAX level with NEW DOT 4 brake fluid. Go to next step.
  2. Slowly open lower bleeder screw on booster. See Figure . When brake fluid appears, close bleeder screw and connect bleeder hose. Go to next step.
  3. Open lower bleeder screw. Using a slow, even stroke, fully depress brake pedal. Close bleeder screw and release brake pedal. Repeat procedure until fluid is clear of air bubbles. Check brake fluid level in reservoir. See CHECKING BRAKE FLUID LEVEL  . Go to next step.
  4. Connect bleeder hose to driver-side front caliper bleeder screw. Open bleeder screw. Using a slow, even stroke, fully depress brake pedal. Close bleeder screw at bottom of pedal stroke and release brake pedal. Repeat procedure until fluid is clear of air bubbles. Go to next step.
  5. Connect bleeder hose to passenger-side front caliper bleeder screw. Open bleeder screw. Using a slow, even stroke, fully depress brake pedal. Close bleeder screw at bottom of pedal stroke and release brake pedal. Repeat procedure until fluid is clear of air bubbles. Go to next step.
  6. Connect bleeder hose to brake booster/ABS modulator unit front bleeder screw and open bleeder screw. See Figure . Depress brake pedal and turn ignition on. Allow brake fluid to flow until clear of bubbles. Turn ignition off, close bleeder screw and release brake pedal. Go to next step.
  7. Connect bleeder hose to brake booster/ABS modulator unit rear bleeder screw and open bleeder screw. See Figure . Depress brake pedal and turn ignition on. Allow brake fluid to flow until clear of bubbles. Turn ignition off, close bleeder screw and release brake pedal. Go to next step.
  8. Connect bleeder hose to driver-side rear caliper bleeder screw. Open bleeder screw. Using a slow, even stroke, fully depress brake pedal. Turn ignition on for 4 seconds. Switch off ignition for 4 seconds. Repeat procedure until brake fluid is clear of bubbles. Switch off ignition, close bleeder screw and release brake pedal. Go to next step.
  9. Connect bleeder hose to passenger-side rear caliper bleeder screw.
  10. Turn ignition on. Wait for ABS pump to stop running. Press brake pedal down firmly and fully, then release 5 times. Go to next step.
  11. With ignition on, repeat front caliper bleed, but use only lower two-thirds of pedal travel when bleeding. See steps  45 . Go to next step.
  12. Turn ignition on. Wait for ABS pump to stop running. Press brake pedal down firmly and fully, then release 5 times. Check reservoir fluid level. Top up, if necessary. If ABS pump makes a ticking noise when running during this procedure, repeats steps  610 . When bleed procedure is successfully completed, ABS pump will not make ticking noises.
