Drive Belt Inspection
NOTE:
All models are equipped with automatic belt tensioner. Belt tension adjustment is not required. If belt is removed and reinstalled, ensure direction of belt rotation is not changed. If belt tensioner arm and spring case are touching, replace belt tensioner.
- Using a belt tension gauge, check drive belt tension. Check belt tension several times at the same point away from tensioner. Start and run engine between each check. On a used belt and tensioner without A/C, tension should be approximately 60.7 lbs. (27.5 kg). On a used belt and tensioner with A/C, tension should be 66.3 lbs. (30.1 kg). If belt tension is as specified, go to next step. If belt tension is not as specified, replace belt tensioner.
- If belt tensioner arm and spring case are touching, replace belt tensioner. If belt tensioner is okay, start engine and allow to idle. Normal belt tensioner movement or bounce should be approximately 0.2" (5.0 mm). If tensioner movement is 0.5" (12.0 mm) or more, replace belt tensioner. Ensure drive belt is not stretched. Replace drive belt as necessary.
