Upper Steering Column: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable, then positive cable. Remove intermediate shaft. See INTERMEDIATE SHAFT . Remove lower instrument panel and disconnect courtesy light. Remove upper and lower steering column covers.
  2. Remove turn signal indicator switch from combination switch connector. Remove washer/wiper switch from combination switch connector. Disconnect ignition switch KEY IN sensor, rotary coupler and air bag system connectors. Release steering column harness clips and release harness. Remove ignition lock barrel illumination light. Disconnect combination connector from key inhibit solenoid (shift interlock).
  3. Remove driver-side blower motor housing duct from heater unit. Remove 2 steering column lower mounting bolts at firewall. Remove 2 bolts and 2 nuts at pedal box. Remove steering column.
