Steering Column: Removal
- Make the SRS system safe. Refer to STANDARD WORKSHOP PRACTICES .
- Remove the driver lower air bag. Refer to DRIVER LOWER AIR BAG MODULE .
- Remove the steering column lower cowl.
- Remove the steering column upper cowl.
- Release the steering column wiring harness.
- If installed, disconnect the SRS ride-down electrical connector concealed at the rear of the steering column.
- Remove the steering column universal joint clamp bolt and release the shaft.
- Remove the steering column assembly.

- Using the special tool, remove the driver air bag module.
Remover, Driver Air Bag (501-106)
- Carefully release the 2 clips.
- Using the special tool, remove the driver air bag module.

- Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Remove the steering wheel.
- Remove the clockspring.
CAUTION:
Take extra care not to damage the clips.
NOTE:
Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
WARNING:
Do not probe supplemental restraint system (SRS) electrical connectors.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the clockspring rotor does not rotate.
