Starter Relay

  1. On ES300, starter relay is located under instrument panel, above glove box. On LS400, starter relay is located in junction block No. 2 in left side of engine compartment. On GS300, SC300 and SC400, starter relay is located in engine compartment.
  2. Remove starter relay. On ES300, GS300, and LS400, use an ohmmeter and check for continuity between starter relay terminals No. 1 and 3. On SC300 and SC400, use an ohmmeter and check for continuity between starter relay terminals No. 1 and 2. See Fig 1 and Fig 2. If continuity is not present, replace relay.
  3. On ES300, GS300, and LS400, ensure no continuity is present between relay terminals No. 2 and 4. On SC300 and SC400, ensure no continuity is present between relay terminals No. 3 and 5. If continuity is not as specified, replace relay.
  4. On ES300, GS300, and LS400, apply battery voltage between relay terminals No. 1 and 3. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between relay terminals No. 2 and 4. On SC300 and SC400, apply battery voltage between terminals No. 1 and 2. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between relay terminals No. 3 and 5. If continuity is not present, replace relay.
