Diagnosis & Repair

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector No. 3 (DLC3). DLC3 is located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition and scan tool on. Select ACTIVE TEST mode on scan tool. Using scan tool, turn ABS warning light on and off. If warning light turns on and off, replace ABS/TRAC/VSC ECU. If warning light does not turn on or off, go to next step.
  2. Check GAUGE fuse, bulb, instrument cluster and wiring. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. If no problem is indicated, go to next step.
  3. Check ABS solenoid relay. See ABS SOLENOID RELAY  under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace relay as necessary. If relay is okay, repair open circuit in Pink wire between DLC No. 1 and ABS solenoid relay, or White/Black wire between ABS solenoid relay and ground.
  4. Ensure ABS/TRAC/VSC ECU connectors are clean and tight. Ensure harness terminals are not damaged. ABS/TRAC/VSC ECU is located behind right kick panel. See Figure. Repair as necessary. If connectors and terminals are okay. Proceed as follows. If ABS warning light stays on and Lexus scan tool is not available, go to step  6. If ABS warning light stays on and Lexus scan tool is available, go to next step.
  5. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector No. 3 (DLC3). DLC3 is located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition and scan tool on. Using scan tool, select ACTIVE TEST mode. Using scan tool, turn ABS warning light on and off. If warning light turns on and off, replace ABS/TRAC/VSC ECU. If warning light does not turn on or off, go to next step.
  6. Retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If and DTCs are present, perform appropriate test and repair as necessary. If no DTCs are present, go to next step.
  7. Remove short pin from DLC1. See Figure. If ABS warning light turns off out, go to next step. If ABS warning light does not turn off, repair short circuit in Blue/Yellow wire between ABS warning light, DLC1 and ABS/TRAC/VSC ECU.
  8. Check ABS solenoid relay. See ABS SOLENOID RELAY  under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace as necessary. If relay is okay, repair short circuit in Pink wire between DLC1 and ABS solenoid relay.
