Shift Lock Solenoid

  1. Access shift lock ECU. See Figure and Figure . Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM, measure voltage by backprobing between specified shift lock ECU terminals with vehicle operated under specified condition. See SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID PIN VOLTAGES  table. Ensure voltage is as specified. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION .
    NOTE: On Avalon (floor shift), Celica, Corolla, ES300, GS300, GS400, RAV4 and RX300; shift lock solenoid is incorporated with shift lock ECU. Voltage tests for shift lock solenoid circuits are not available.
  2. Disconnect electrical connector from shift lock solenoid. Using DVOM, measure resistance between shift lock solenoid terminals. See SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS  table. If shift lock solenoid resistance is not within specification, replace shift lock solenoid. If shift lock solenoid resistance is within specification, go to next step.
  3. Connect jumper wire between positive battery terminal and appropriate shift lock solenoid terminal. Connect an additional jumper wire between ground and appropriate shift lock solenoid terminal. Replace shift lock solenoid if operating sound cannot be heard.
