Without Hand-Held Sensor

  1. Turn the ignition switch Off.
  2. Using special tool (09843-18040), connect terminals Ts and CG of DLC3. See Figure.
  3. Check that the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position.
  4. Turn the ignition switch ON and check that the ABS warning light blinks. If the ABS warning light does not blink, inspect the ABS warning light circuit and Ts circuit. See SYSTEM TESTING .
  5. Pump the brake pedal to release the booster vacuum.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (do not start the engine) and keep pressing the brake pedal for 1 second or more with a strong force to check the brake pedal load sensing switch.
  7. Check that the brake warning light is lit and the operating sound of the ABS motor is heard.
  8. Start the engine and depress the brake pedal with a strong force. Check that the brake warning light goes out.
  9. When rechecking, exit the test mode and then activate the test mode again.
  10. Keep the vehicle stationary on a level place for 1 second or more to check the deceleration sensor.
  11. Leaving the vehicle in a stationary condition and the brake pedal in free condition for 1 second or more, depress the brake pedal with a strong force for 1 second or more. While the vehicle is stopped, release the brake pedal. Quickly depress the brake pedal once or more and check that the ABS warning light is lit for 3 seconds. Repeat the operation until the ABS warning light is lit. This will check the master cylinder pressure sensor.
  12. Drive the vehicle straight forward and faster than 28 mph (45 km/h) for several seconds. Check that the ABS warning light comes off. This will check the speed sensor signal. The check may not be completed if the wheels spin or the steering wheel is moved during this check.
  13. Stop the vehicle. Using special tool (09843-18040), connect terminals Tc and CG of DLC3. See Figure.
  14. Read the number of blinks of the ABS warning light. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  15. If every sensor is normal, a normal code is output. If 2 or more malfunctions are indicated at the same time, the lowest numbered code will be displayed first.
  16. After doing the check, turn the ignition switch OFF and remove the special tool from the DLC3.
