SFI System: Injector: Inspection

  1. INSPECT INJECTOR INJECTION 
    CAUTION: Keep injector clean of sparks during the test.

    1. Disconnect the fuel inlet hose (fuel tube connector) from the fuel filter.

      CAUTION:
      • Perform disconnecting operations of the fuel tube connector (quick type) after reading the precautions (See  PRECAUTION  ). 
      • Prevent the retained pressure in the fuel pipe line from splashing inside the engine compartment. 
    2. Purchase the new fuel main hose and take out the fuel tube connector from its hose.

    3. Connect SST (hose) and fuel tube connector to the fuel filter outlet.

      CAUTION: Perform connecting operations of the fuel tube connector (quick type) after reading the precautions (See  PRECAUTION  ). 

      HINT:

      Use the vehicle's fuel filter.

    4. Remove the pressure regulator from the delivery pipe.
    5. Install the O-ring to the fuel inlet of the pressure regulator.
    6. Connect SST (hose) to the fuel inlet of the pressure regulator with SST (union) and the 2 bolts.
      1. SST 09268-41047 (09268-41091)
      2. Torque: 7.5 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf) 
    7. Connect the fuel return hose to the fuel outlet of the pressure regulator.

    8. Install the O-ring to the injector.

    10. Connect SST (adaptor and hose) to the injector, and hold the injector and union with SST (clamp).
      1. SST 09268-41047 (09268-41110, 09268-41300) 
    11. Put the injector into the graduated cylinder.
      CAUTION: Install a suitable vinyl hose onto the injector to prevent gasoline from splashing out. 
    12. Connect the LEXUS hand-held OBD II scan tool tester to the DLC3.

    14. Connect the battery negative (-) cable to the battery.
    15. Turn the ignition switch ON, and press the LEXUS hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool main switch ON.
      NOTE: Do not start the engine. 
    16. Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the LEXUS hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool.
    17. Please refer to the LEXUS hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool operator's manual for further details.
    18. If you have no LEXUS hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool, connect the positive (+) and negative (-) leads from the battery to the fuel pump connector

      (See FUEL PUMP ).

    19. Connect SST (wire) to the injector and the battery for 15 seconds, and measure the injection volume with a graduated cylinder. Test each injector 2 or 3 times.
      1. SST 09842-30070
      2. Volume: 56 - 69 cm 3  (3.4 - 4.2 cu in.) per 15 seconds  
      3. Difference between each injector: 13 cm 3  (0.8 cu in.) or less 

      If the injection volume is not as specified, replace the injector.

  2. INSPECT LEAKAGE 
    1. In the condition above, disconnect the tester probes of SST (wire) from the battery and check the fuel leakage from the injector.
      1. SST 09842-30070
      2. Fuel drop: 1 drop or less per 12 minutes

    2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    3. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery.
    4. Remove SST and fuel tube connector.
      1. SST 09268-41047, 09842-30070 
    5. Disconnect the LEXUS hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool from the DLC3.
    6. Reconnect the fuel inlet pipe (fuel tube connector) to the fuel filter.
