Power Mirror Control System: Inspection

HINT:

On the RH side, use the same procedures as on the LH side.

  1. INSPECT ELECTRO CHROMIC OUTER MIRROR OPERATION 
    1. Disconnect the outer mirror connector.
    2. Inspect the mirror motor operation.

      1. Apply battery voltage as shown in VOLTAGE TABLE  .
      VOLTAGE TABLE

      Battery connection Mirror face operation
      Positive (+) - 8
      Negative (-) - 15
      Upward (A)
      Positive (+) -15
      Negative (-) - 8
      Downward (B)
      Positive (+) - 16
      Negative (-) - 15
      Left (C)
      Positive (+) -15
      Negative (-) - 16
      Right (D)

      If the operation is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

    3. Inspect the electrical retract motor operation.

      1. At the folded front position:

        Apply battery voltage as shown in VOLTAGE TABLE  .

        ELECTRICAL RETRACT MOTOR OPERATION (FOLDED FRONT POSITION)

        Battery connection Mirror operation
        Positive (+) - 6
        Negative (-) - 14
        To retract position
        ((1) to (5) position)
        Positive (+) -14
        Negative (-) - 6
        Unmoved

        If the operation is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

      2. Between the folded front position and drive position:

        Apply battery voltage as shown in VOLTAGE TABLE  .

        ELECTRICAL RETRACT MOTOR OPERATION (FOLDED FRONT & DRIVE POSITION)

        Battery connection Mirror operation
        Positive (+) - 6
        Negative (-) - 14
        To retract position
        ((2) to (5) position)
        Positive (+) - 14
        Negative (-) - 6
        To folded front position
        ((2) to (1) position)

        If the operation is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

      3. At the drive position:

        Apply battery voltage as shown in VOLTAGE TABLE  .

        ELECTRICAL RETRACT MOTOR OPERATION (DRIVE POSITION)

        Battery connection Mirror operation
        Positive (+) - 6
        Negative (-) - 14
        To retract position
        ((3) to (5) position)
        Positive (+) - 14
        Negative (-) - 6
        Unmoved

        If the operation is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

      4. Between the drive position and retract position:

        Apply battery voltage as shown in VOLTAGE TABLE  .

        ELECTRICAL RETRACT MOTOR OPERATION (DRIVE POSITION & RETRACT POSITION)

        Battery connection Mirror operation
        Positive (+) - 6
        Negative (-) -14
        To retract position
        ((4) to (5) position)
        Positive (+) -14
        Negative (-) - 6
        To drive position
        ((4) to (3) position)

        If the operation is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

      5. At the retract position:

        Apply battery voltage as shown in VOLTAGE TABLE  .

        ELECTRICAL RETRACT MOTOR OPERATION (RETRACT POSITION)

        Battery connection Mirror operation
        Positive (+) - 6
        Negative (-) -14
        Unmoved
        Positive (+) - 14
        Negative (-) - 6
        To drive position
        ((5) to (3) position

        If the operation is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

    4. Inspect the mirror heater operation.
      1. Check the resistance between terminals 5 and 13 of the connector.

        Resistance: 3.3 - 4.5 Ω

      2. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 5 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 13 of the connector.
      3. Check that the mirror becomes warm.

      HINT:

      It will take a short time for the mirror to become warm.

      If the operation is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

    5. Inspect the electrochromic outer mirror operation.
      1. Connect the positive (+) lead from the dry cell battery (1.5 V) to terminal 7 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 15, then check that the mirror face becomes dark.
      2. Reconnect them to the dry cell battery in the reverse order, then check that the mirror face becomes bright.

      If the operation is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.
