Instrument Panel Safety Pad Sub-ASSY: Replacement

HINT:

  1. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT

    HINT:

    Each type of bolt, screw and nut used during installation/removal of the instrument panel has an alphabetical code. These codes are used in the component illustrations and procedures.

  2. SET RADIO RECEIVER ASSY TO SHIPMENT MODE (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  4. SET STEERING WHEEL TO CENTER 
  5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO. 2 (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  6. REMOVE SWITCH & VOLUME CASE (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  7. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH MODULATOR (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  8. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  9. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  10. REMOVE DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSY RH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 claws and 5 clips.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Disconnect the connector and remove the door scuff plate.

  11. REMOVE DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSY LH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedures described for RH side.

  12. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER RH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 3 claws and remove the trim cover.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  13. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedures described for RH side.

  14. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY NO. 1 
    1. Disconnect the hood lock control cable and connectors.
    2. Remove the 3 bolts <E> and safety pad.

  15. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips and remove the panel.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  16. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER LOWER (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  17. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER UPPER (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  18. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  19. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    1. Remove the 4 screws <K>.
    2. Disconnect the connectors and remove the combination meter.

  20. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH REAR 
    1. Using a molding remover, detach the 4 claws.
    2. Disconnect the connectors and remove the panel garnish.

  21. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER 
    1. Using a molding remover, detach the 6 clips and 4 claws.
    2. Disconnect the connectors and remove the panel garnish.

      HINT:

      Move the shift lever to N and close the receptacle door.

  22. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONER CONTROL ASSY 
    1. Detach the 6 clips and remove the A/C control. Then disconnect the connectors.

  23. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER CENTER (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  24. CONFIRM RADIO RECEIVER ASSY SHIPMENT MODE SETTING (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  25. w/o LEXUS navigation system: REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD GARNISH SUB-ASSY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, release the 4 claws on the instrument safety pad body from inside of the registers.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Using a molding remover, detach the 5 clips and remove the safety pad garnish.

  26. w/ LEXUS navigation system: REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD GARNISH SUB-ASSY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, release the 2 claws on the instrument safety pad body from inside of the register.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Using a molding remover, detach the 3 clips and remove the safety pad garnish.

  27. w/ LEXUS navigation system: REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL GARNISH SUB-ASSY NO. 2 
    1. Using a screwdriver, release the 2 claws on the instrument safety pad body from inside of the register.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Using a molding remover, detach the 6 clips and remove the panel garnish.

  28. w/ LEXUS navigation system: REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY CENTER (See  MULTI-DISPLAY (CENTER DISPLAY)  ) 
  29. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSY NO. 2 
    1. Detach the 3 clips and 2 claws.
    2. Disconnect the connector and remove the under cover.

  30. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts <E> and 2 screws <K>.
    2. Disconnect the connector and remove the glove compartment door.

  31. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX CARPET 
  32. REMOVE BOX PANEL NO. 3 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 7 claws and remove the panel.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  33. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts <C> 6 bolts <F> and 4 screws <H>.
    2. Detach the 2 clips and remove the console box.

  34. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSY NO. 2 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and tire pressure monitor receiver.
    2. Remove the nut <L>, bolt <A> and brace.

  35. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSY NO. 1 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts <L>, 2 bolts <A> and brace.

  36. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the claw and 2 clips. Then remove the pillar garnish.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  37. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedures described for RH side.

  38. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL RH 
    1. Using a molding remover, detach the 6 claws and remove the panel.

  39. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY 
    1. Fold back the front floor carpet.
    2. Disconnect all connectors.
    3. Remove the 2 caps, 3 bolts <A> 2 bolts <C> bolt <M> 2 bolts <D> and steering yoke bolt.
    4. Detach the 2 claws and remove the instrument panel safety pad (with instrument panel reinforcement and steering column).

  40. REMOVE AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR 
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2. Remove the cooler thermistor (solar sensor).
      NOTE: Do not pry the cooler thermistor off from the upper position.

  41. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO. 4 
    1. Remove the 3 clips and duct.
  42. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSY 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts, 2 bolts and steering column.

  43. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PLATE 
  44. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL PIN NO. 1 
    1. Remove the 3 screws <I> and 3 instrument panel pins.
  45. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE GARNISH NO. 1 
    1. Detach the 12 claws and remove the nozzle garnish.
  46. REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE DUCT NO. 1 
    1. Remove the 2 screws <K> and nozzle duct.
  47. REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE DUCT NO. 2 
    1. Remove the 3 screws <K> and nozzle duct.
  48. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE FRONT 
    1. Remove the 4 screws <K> and nozzle.
  49. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO. 1 
    1. Remove the clip, 2 screws <K> and duct.
  50. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO. 3 
    1. Remove the 2 screws <K> and duct.
  51. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO. 2 
    1. Remove the 3 screws <K> and duct.
  52. DISCONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  53. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT 
    1. Disconnect all connectors.
    2. Remove the 2 bolts <C> 2 bolts <G>, screw <K> and reinforcement with wire harness.
  54. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY NO. 1 
    1. Remove the 2 screws <k> and register.
  55. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY NO. 2 
    1. Remove the 2 screws <k> and register.
  56. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR LOCK STRIKER PLATE ASSY 
    1. Remove the 4 screws <k> and striker plate.
  57. w/ LEXUS navigation system: REMOVE NAVIGATION ANTENNA ASSY 
  58. REMOVE CENTER JUNCTION BLOCK 
  59. REMOVE NETWORK GATEWAY ECU 
  60. REMOVE LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT 
  61. REMOVE METER HOOD RETAINER NO. 1 
    1. Remove the screw <k> and retainer.
  62. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  63. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  64. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT 
    1. Install the reinforcement with the screw <k> and 2 bolts <C> 2 bolts <G>.

      Torque: 20 N.m (200 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf) for bolt <G> 

    2. Connect all connectors.
  65. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSY 
    1. Install the steering column with the 2 bolts and 4 nuts.

      Torque: 25 N.m (260 kgf.cm, 19 ft.lbf) 

  66. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY 
    1. Install the instrument panel safety pad with the 3 bolts <A> 2 bolts <C> bolt <D> 2 bolts <M> and steering yoke bolt.

  67. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSY NO. 2 
    1. Install the brace with the nut and bolt.
  68. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSY NO. 1 
    1. Install the brace with the nut and 2 bolts.
    2. Install the tire pressure monitor receiver with the 2 bolts.
  69. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX ASSY 
    1. Install the console box with the 8 bolts and 4 screws.

      HINT:

      When the console panel upper is installed, move the shift lever to N and close the receptacle door.

  70. CENTER SPIRAL CABLE (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  71. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  72. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT 
  73. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  74. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  75. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (See  INITIALIZATION  ) 
    NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  76. INSPECT HORN BUTTON ASSY (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
  77. CHECK SRS WARNING LAMP (See  PRECAUTION  )
