Camshaft Position Sensor: Replacement

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  2. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (See  ENGINE COOLANT  ) 
  3. REMOVE V-BANK COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and V-bank cover.
  4. REMOVE RADIATOR HOSE NO. 1 
  5. REMOVE TIMING BELT COVER SUB-ASSY NO. 3 LH 
  6. REMOVE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR 
    1. Remove the bolt, stud bolt and sensor.

  7. INSTALL CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR 
    1. Install a new sensor with the bolt and stud bolt.

      Torque: 7.5 N.m (76 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf) 

  8. INSTALL TIMING BELT COVER SUB-ASSY NO. 3 LH (See  TIMING BELT  ) 
  9. INSTALL RADIATOR HOSE NO.1 
  10. INSTALL V-BANK COVER 
    1. Install the V-bank cover with the 2 nuts.

      Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) 

  11. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  12. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (See  INITIALIZATION  ) 
    NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  13. ADD ENGINE COOLANT (See  ENGINE COOLANT  ) 
  14. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS (See  ENGINE COOLANT  )
