Floor Shift ASSY: Overhaul

HINT:

A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt table (See SPECIFIED TORQUE FOR STANDARD BOLTS ).

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat pretensioner activation.
  2. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH REAR 
  3. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER 
  4. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  5. REMOVE RR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER LH (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  6. REMOVE RR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER RH (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  7. DISCONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  8. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  9. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1 (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  10. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE CABLE HEAT INSULATOR (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  11. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSY 
    1. Move the shift lever to N.
    2. Remove the nut and disconnect the shifting rod from the connecting rod swivel.

  12. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the 4 connectors.
    2. Remove the 4 bolts and floor shift.

  13. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY 
    1. Twist the knob counterclockwise and pull it upward to remove it.

  14. REMOVE SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 6 claws and remove the shift position indicator.

  15. REMOVE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SWITCH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the VSC OFF switch from the shift position indicator.

  16. REMOVE PATTERN SELECT SWITCH ASSY NO.1 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the pattern select switch from the shift position indicator.

  17. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER CAP 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the shift lever cap from the shift position indicator.

  18. REMOVE INDICATOR LAMP WIRE SUB-ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the indicator lamp wire.

    2. Remove the bulb from the indicator lamp wire.
    3. Using a small screwdriver, release the locking lug of indicator lamp wire terminals 1, 2 and 3. Then pull out the terminals from the rear.

  19. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSY 
    1. Remove the 2 screws and ECU.

  20. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSY 
    1. Install the ECU with the 2 screws.
    NOTE: Align the 2 grooves as shown in Fig 11.

  21. INSTALL INDICATOR LAMP WIRE SUB-ASSY 
    1. Connect the 2 wire harnesses of the indicator lamp wire to the connector.
    2. Install the bulb to the indicator lamp wire.
    3. Install the indicator lamp wire as shown in Fig 12.

  22. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER CAP 
    1. Install the shift lever cap to the shift position indicator.
  23. INSTALL SWITCH ASSY, PATTERN SELECT 
    1. Install the pattern select switch to the shift position indicator.

  24. INSTALL VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SWITCH 
    1. Install the VSC OFF switch to the shift position indicator.

  25. INSTALL SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR 
    1. Install the shift position indicator to the shift lever guide housing.

    HINT:

    Firmly fit the claws.

  26. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY 
    1. Install the knob and twist it clockwise to lock it in place.

  27. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT ASSY 
    1. Install the floor shift with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 8.3 N.m (85 kgf.cm, 74 in.lbf) 

    2. Connect the 4 connectors.

  28. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSY 
    1. Temporarily connect the shifting rod to the connecting rod swivel with the nut.

  29. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  30. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (See  INITIALIZATION  ) 
    NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  31. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION (See  ADJUSTMENT   ) 
  32. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  33. CONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  34. INSTALL RR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER RH (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  35. INSTALL RR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER LH (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  36. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  37. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION (See  ADJUSTMENT   ) 
  38. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS
