Automatic Transmission Assembly: Installation

  1. INSTALL TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the torque converter clutch to the automatic transmission.
    2. Fig 1: Measuring Dimension A Between Engine & End Surface Of Drive Plate Using Calipers & Straight Edge

    3. Using calipers and a straight edge, measure dimension A between the engine and the end surface of the drive plate.

    5. Using calipers and a straight edge, measure the dimension B and check that B is greater than A measured in (b).

    Standard: A + 1 mm (0.03937 in.) or more 

  2. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING REAR INSULATOR

    1. Install the No. 1 engine mounting rear insulator and 4 bolts to the automatic transmission.

      Torque: 65 N*m (663 kgf*cm, 48 ft.*lbf) 

  3. INSTALL TRANSFER ASSEMBLY (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  4. INSTALL NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET

    1. Install the No. 1 transmission control cable bracket with 2 bolts.

      Torque: 25 N*m (255 kgf*cm, 19 ft.*lbf) 

  5. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

    1. Install the automatic transmission and 10 bolts to the engine.

      Torque: 17 mm head 

      71 N*m (720 kgf*cm, 53 ft.*lbf) 

      14 mm head 

      37 N*m (380 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf)

    3. Install the 6 torque converter clutch mounting bolts.

      Torque: 48 N*m (490 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf) 

      HINT:

      First install black colored bolt and then the 5 bolts.

  6. INSTALL FLYWHEEL HOUSING UNDER COVER

    1. Install the flywheel housing under cover and bolt.

      Torque: 18 N*m (184 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf) 

  7. CONNECT WIRE HARNESS

    1. Install the wire harness with the bolt.

      Torque: 8.0 N*m (83 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf) 

  8. INSTALL TRANSFER BREATHER HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Install the transfer breather hose sub-assembly.

      HINT:

      The breather hose bracket is tightened together with the transmission housing.

  9. CONNECT CONNECTOR 
    1. Connect the speed sensor SP2 connector.
    2. Connect the transmission wire connector.
    3. Connect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.
    4. Connect the temperature sensor connector.
    5. Connect the speedometer sensor connector.
    6. Connect the indicator No. 1 switch connector. (Low)
    7. Connect the indicator No. 2 switch connector. (Neutral)
    8. Connect the indicator No. 3 switch connector. (Diff. lock)
    9. Connect the transfer shift actuator connector. (with transfer shift actuator)
  10. INSTALL NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Install the No. 3 frame crossmember sub-assembly with 4 bolts and 4 nuts.

      Torque: 72 N*m (734 kgf*cm, 53 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Install the No. 3 frame crossmember sub-assembly with 4 bolts.

      Torque: 18 N*m (184 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf) 

  11. CONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

    1. Install the nut and clip on the transmission control cable assembly.

      Torque: 12 N*m (122 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf) 

  12. INSTALL NO. 1 OIL COOLER OUTLET TUBE 
    1. Temporarily install the No. 1 oil cooler outlet tube.
    2. Temporarily install the No. 1 oil cooler inlet tube.

    4. Install the 2 clamps and 2 bolts.

      Torque: 5 N*m (50 kgf*cm, 43 in.*lbf) 

    5. Using SST, tighten the No. 1 oil cooler outlet tube.

      Torque: 34 N*m (346 kgf*cm, 25 ft.*lbf) 

    SST 09023-12701 

  13. INSTALL NO. 1 OIL COOLER INLET TUBE

    1. Using SST, tighten the No. 1 oil cooler inlet tube.

      Torque: 34 N*m (346 kgf*cm, 25 ft.*lbf) 

    SST 09023-12701 

  14. INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACKET LH

    1. Install the front suspension member bracket LH with 4 bolts.

      Torque: 33 N*m (336 kgf*cm, 24 ft.*lbf) 

  15. INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACKET 
    1. Install the front suspension member bracket with 4 bolts.

      Torque: 33 N*m (336 kgf*cm, 24 ft.*lbf) 

  16. INSTALL PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  17. INSTALL FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  18. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION 

    HINT:

    (See ADJUSTMENT  )

  19. INSTALL EXHAUST FRONT PIPE ASSEMBLY 

    HINT:

    (See INSTALLATION )

  20. INSTALL OXYGEN SENSOR 

    HINT:

    (See INSTALLATION )

  21. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Torque: 29 N*m (296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf) 

  22. INSTALL REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY 

    Torque: 29 N*m (296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf) 

  23. INSTALL TRANSFER HIGH AND LOW SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY

    1. Using needle nose pliers, install the transfer high and low shift lever assembly with snap ring.

    HINT:

    Apply MP grease to the transfer shift lever.

  24. INSTALL UPPER CONSOLE PANEL ASSEMBLY 
  25. INSTALL NO. 2 CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH 
  26. INSTALL NO. 1 CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH 
  27. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the shift lever knob on the shift lever.
    2. Install the floor shift lever knob on the shift lever.
  28. ADD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID 

    HINT:

  29. INSPECT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID 

    HINT:

    (See ADJUSTMENT  )

  30. INSTALL BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL 
  31. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION 

    HINT:

    (See ADJUSTMENT  )

  32. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS 

    HINT:

    (See INSTALLATION )

  33. RESET MEMORY 
    NOTE: Perform the RESET MEMORY (AT initialization) when replacing the automatic transmission assembly, engine assembly or ECM (See MANUAL SHIFTING TEST  ).

    HINT:

    RESET MEMORY cannot be completed by only disconnecting the battery terminal.
