Automatic Transmission Assembly: Removal
- REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER (See REMOVAL )
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
- REMOVE PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY
- Remove the propeller with center bearing shaft (see REMOVAL ).
- REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST PIPE SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 2 bolts and bracket.
- DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
- Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF.
- Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
- DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the nut and disconnect the gear shifting rod.
- REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH
- Remove the nut and transmission control shaft lever.
- REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER REAR LH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER REAR RH (See REMOVAL )
- DISCONNECT FRONT STABILIZER BAR
- Remove the 4 bolts and disconnect the stabilizer bar from the rear brace.
- REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER REINFORCEMENT LH

- Remove the 4 bolts and front suspension member reinforcement LH from the vehicle.
- REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER REINFORCEMENT RH

- Remove the 4 bolts and front suspension member reinforcement RH from the vehicle.
- REMOVE STEERING SLIDING YOKE WITH SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ VGRS) (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STEERING SLIDING YOKE WITH SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/o VGRS) (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (w/ VGRS) (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (w/o VGRS) (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
- Disconnect the A/F sensor (sensor 1) connector.
- Remove the 3 bolts and heat insulator.
- Remove the 8 nuts and exhaust manifold.
- REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY
- Remove the generator (see REMOVAL ).
- REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 3 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- DISCONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE INLET AND OUTLET
- Remove the 2 bolts and 2 clamps.
- Loosen the union nuts of the oil cooler tube inlet and outlet and disconnect them.
- SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
- Support the automatic transmission with a transmission jack.
- REMOVE ENGINE REAR MOUNTING MEMBER
- Remove the 4 bolts and disconnect the mounting member.
- Remove the 4 nuts and mounting member.
- DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
- Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.
- Tilt the automatic transmission downward.NOTE: Take care so that the rear side of the engine assembly does not come into contact with the body.
- Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
- Disconnect the transmission wire connector.
HINT:
Detach the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.
- Detach the 5 harness clamps from the automatic transmission.
- REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
- Remove the flywheel housing side cover.
- Turn the crankshaft to gain access to each bolt.
- Hold the crankshaft pulley nut with a wrench and remove the 6 bolts.
- Remove the 10 bolts.
- Separate and remove the automatic transmission.
- REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE REAR MOUNTING INSULATOR
- Remove the 4 bolts and engine mounting insulator.
- REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

- Put matchmarks on the transmission case and torque converter clutch.
- Remove the torque converter clutch from the automatic transmission.
