Automatic Transmission Assembly: Removal

  1. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER  (See REMOVAL )
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
    NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  3. REMOVE PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the propeller with center bearing shaft (see REMOVAL ).
  4. REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST PIPE SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and bracket.
  5. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID 
    1. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF.
    2. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

      Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) 

  6. DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the nut and disconnect the gear shifting rod.
  7. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH

    1. Remove the nut and transmission control shaft lever.
  8. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER REAR LH  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER REAR RH  (See REMOVAL )
  10. DISCONNECT FRONT STABILIZER BAR

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and disconnect the stabilizer bar from the rear brace.
  11. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER REINFORCEMENT LH

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and front suspension member reinforcement LH from the vehicle.
  12. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER REINFORCEMENT RH

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and front suspension member reinforcement RH from the vehicle.
  13. REMOVE STEERING SLIDING YOKE WITH SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ VGRS)  (See REMOVAL )
  14. REMOVE STEERING SLIDING YOKE WITH SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/o VGRS)  (See REMOVAL )
  15. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (w/ VGRS)  (See REMOVAL )
  16. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (w/o VGRS)  (See REMOVAL )
  17. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

    1. Disconnect the A/F sensor (sensor 1) connector.
    2. Remove the 3 bolts and heat insulator.

    3. Remove the 8 nuts and exhaust manifold.

  18. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the generator (see REMOVAL ).
  19. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE  (See REMOVAL )
  20. REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR  (See REMOVAL )
  21. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH  (See REMOVAL )
  22. REMOVE NO. 3 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR  (See REMOVAL )
  23. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  24. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE INLET AND OUTLET

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 clamps.
    2. Loosen the union nuts of the oil cooler tube inlet and outlet and disconnect them.
  25. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY 
    1. Support the automatic transmission with a transmission jack.
  26. REMOVE ENGINE REAR MOUNTING MEMBER

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and disconnect the mounting member.
    2. Remove the 4 nuts and mounting member.

  27. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

    1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.
    2. Tilt the automatic transmission downward.
      NOTE: Take care so that the rear side of the engine assembly does not come into contact with the body.
    3. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    4. Disconnect the transmission wire connector.

      HINT:

      Detach the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.

    5. Detach the 5 harness clamps from the automatic transmission.
  28. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the flywheel housing side cover.
    2. Turn the crankshaft to gain access to each bolt.
    3. Hold the crankshaft pulley nut with a wrench and remove the 6 bolts.

    4. Remove the 10 bolts.

    5. Separate and remove the automatic transmission.
  29. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE REAR MOUNTING INSULATOR

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and engine mounting insulator.
  30. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

    1. Put matchmarks on the transmission case and torque converter clutch.
    2. Remove the torque converter clutch from the automatic transmission.
