Repair Instruction: Initialization

NOTE: When disconnecting the cable from negative (-) battery terminal, initialize the following system(s) after the terminal is reconnected.

The initialization procedures are below the table.

SYSTEM NAME REFERENCE

System Name
Intuitive Parking Assist System
Variable Gear Ratio Steering System
Theft Deterrent System
  1. RESET INTUITIVE PARKING ASSIST SYSTEM

    HINT:

The mid-point learning operation (steering angle midpoint, maximum steering angle) can be performed using 4 methods:

RESET INTUITIVE PARKING ASSIST SYSTEM REFERENCE

Method 1 Use the Techstream to perform initial setting of mid-point When clearance warning ECU is replaced
When steering wheel mid-point or wheel alignment is adjusted
When battery terminal is disconnected and reconnected
When malfunction causes momentary drop in the power supply voltage (due to cranking, depleted battery, etc.)
When steering angle sensor is removed and installed
When steering angle sensor is replaced
Method 2 Use customize mode to perform initial setting of mid-point When clearance warning ECU is replaced
When steering wheel mid-point or wheel alignment is adjusted
Method 3 Perform steering angle mid-point learning operation by rotating steering wheel to left and right full lock position When battery terminal is disconnected and reconnected
When malfunction causes momentary drop in the power supply voltage (due to cranking, depleted battery, etc.)
When steering angle sensor is removed and installed
When steering angle sensor is replaced
Method 4 Perform steering angle mid-point learning operation by traveling in approximate straight line for extended distance When battery terminal is disconnected and reconnected
When malfunction causes momentary drop in the power supply voltage (due to cranking, depleted battery, etc.)
When steering angle sensor is removed and installed
When steering angle sensor is replaced
    1. Method 1 (the Techstream)
      1. Turn the engine switch off.
      2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
      3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
      4. Turn the Techstream on.
      5. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / INTUITIVE P/A/Utility.
      6. Perform the STEERING INITIALIZATION procedure.
    2. Method 2 (Manual operation method)
      1. Using customize mode, set the mid-point and maximum steering angle.

        HINT:

*1: Steering wheel is centered (tires aligned straightforward).

*2: If 180 seconds pass, steering angle mid-point setting and maximum steering angle range setting will not occur and initialize mode will end.

    3. Method 3 (Manual operation method)
      1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
      2. Turn the clearance sonar main switch ON.
      3. Turn the steering wheel to the full left and right lock position.
NOTE: Make sure to completely turn the steering wheel to the left and right full lock position.
      4. Confirm that the learning operation has been completed by checking the multi-information display.
    4. Method 4 (Manual operation method)
      1. At an area with few turns and curves, and minimal traffic, drive at 20 km/h (12 mph) or more for 5 minutes or more.
  2. STEERING ANGLE SENSOR INITIALIZATION (to obtain a tire angle (during straight-ahead driving) signal)
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and check that the master warning light and VSC/ABS warning lights illuminate for a few seconds.
NOTE: If the warning lights remain on or blink, repair he applicable system.

    2. Drive the vehicle on a straight road at 35 km/h (22 mph) or more for 5 seconds or longer.

      HINT:

      • At this point, the steering wheel will still remain off-center by 5 to 10 degrees.
      • In this step, the neutral position of the steering wheel is restored from the steering control ECU memory.
    3. Confirm that steering angle sensor initialization is completed (when using the Techstream).
      1. Enter the VGRS menu using the Techstream. Select "Straight Angle Valid Flag" from "Data List". Check if the steering angle sensor has obtained a tire angle (during straight-ahead driving) signal.

        Standard:

"VALID" is displayed on the Techstream screen.

    4. Confirm that steering angle sensor initialization is completed (when not using the Techstream).
      1. Drive the vehicle on a straight road at 60 km/h (37 mph) or more for 30 seconds or longer.
      2. Stop the vehicle (engine running).
      3. Slowly turn the steering wheel from lock to lock.
      4. If it turns approximately 2.7 turns, steering angle sensor initialization is completed. If it turns approximately 3.2 turns, steering angle sensor initialization is not completed.
NOTE: If the steering wheel turns approximately 3.2 turns, perform step (b) again.
  3. THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM

    HINT:

    • If the battery is reconnected during the armed state, the system may enter the alarm sounding state and the alarm may sound. If so, perform a wireless unlock operation or entry unlock operation to stop the alarm.
