Inspection Procedure
- CHECK OPERATION OF ENGINE CRANKING
- When turning the ignition switch to the START position, check if the starter motor starts.
OK: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
NG: Go to Next Step
- READ VALUE OF TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL)
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Enter the following menu: Powertrain/Engine and ECT/Data List/Starter Signal.
- Confirm the starter signal status when the ignition switch is operated.
OK
IGNITION SWITCH POSITIONIgnition Switch Position Starter Signal ON OFF Start ON
OK: Go to step 5
NG: Go to Next Step
- INSPECT ECM (STA AND STSW VOLTAGE)
- Measure the voltage of the E7 ECM connector while cranking the engine (ignition switch is in the START position).
Standard voltage
STANDARD VOLTAGETester Connection Specified Condition STA (E7-11) - E1 (E7-1) 9 to 14 V STSW (E7-12) - E1 (E7-1) Result

B: REPLACE ECM
C: Go to step 9
A: Go to Next Step
- Measure the voltage of the E7 ECM connector while cranking the engine (ignition switch is in the START position).
- INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH
- Disconnect the P1 park/neutral position switch connector.
- Measure the resistance between each terminal shown below when the shift lever is moved to each position.
Standard resistance
STANDARD RESISTANCEShift Position Tester Connection Specified Condition P 2 - 6, 4 - 5 Below 1 Ω R 1 - 2 N 2 - 9, 4 - 5 D 2 - 7 2 2 - 3 L 2 - 8 - Reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
NG: REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH
OK: CHECK AND REPAIR HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM)
- INSPECT STARTER RELAY
- Remove the starter relay from the engine room R/B
- Measure the resistance of the starter relay.
Standard resistance
STANDARD RESISTANCETester Connection Specified Condition 3-5 10 kΩ or higher 3-5 Below 1 Ω (when battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2) - Reinstall the starter relay.
NG: REPLACE STARTER RELAY
OK: Go to Next Step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - STARTER RELAY, STARTER RELAY - BODY GROUND)
- Check the harness and the connector between the park/neutral position switch connector and the starter relay.
- Disconnect the P1 park/neutral position switch connector.
- Remove the starter relay from the engine room R/B.
- Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.
Standard resistance (Check for open)
STANDARD RESISTANCETester Connection Specified Condition Park/Neutral position switch (P1-5) - Starter relay (2) Below 1 Ω Standard resistance (Check for short)
STANDARD RESISTANCETester Connection Specified Condition Park/Neutral position switch (P1-5) or Starter relay (2) Body ground 10 kΩ or higher - Reinstall the starter relay.
- Reconnect the park/neutral position switch.
- Check the harness and the connector between the starter relay and the body ground.
- Remove the starter relay from the engine room R/B.

Standard resistance (Check for open)

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to Next Step
- Check the harness and the connector between the park/neutral position switch connector and the starter relay.
- INSPECT ENGINE ROOM RELAY BLOCK (STARTER RELAY VOLTAGE)
- Remove the Starter relay from the engine room R/B.
- Measure the voltage of the engine room R/B and body ground.
Standard voltage
STANDARD VOLTAGETester Connection Specified Condition Engine room R/B (Starter relay terminal 5) - Body ground 9 to 14 V - Reinstall the Starter relay.

OK: Go to Next Step
- INSPECT STARTER ASSEMBLY
- Inspect the starter assembly (See INSPECTION ).
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE STARTER ASSEMBLY
OK: CHECK AND REPAIR HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STARTER RELAY - STARTER, STARTER BATTERY)
- INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
- Remove the lower finish panel.
- Disconnect the 118 ignition switch connector.
- Measure the resistance of the connector terminals shown in the chart below.
Standard resistance
STANDARD RESISTANCESwitch Position Tester Connection Specified Condition LOCK All terminals 10 kΩ or higher ACC 2-3 Below 1 Ω ON 2-3 2 - 4, 6 - 7 START 1 - 2, 2 - 4 6 - 7, 7 - 8 - Reconnect the 118 ignition switch connector.
NG: REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
OK: CHECK AND REPAIR HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ECM - IGNITION SWITCH, IGNITION SWITCH BATTERY)
