Front Speed Sensor: Removal

NOTE: While the battery is connected, even if the engine switch is off, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed or the door courtesy switch turns on. Therefore during servicing of the brake system components, do not operate the brake pedal and open/close the doors while the battery is connected.

HINT:

  1. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH  (See REMOVAL )
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
    NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  3. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 
  4. REMOVE SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the front fender liner so that the skid control sensor wire connector (labeled A) can be seen.
    2. Disconnect the sensor connector (labeled A).
    3. Detach the sensor clip (labeled B).
    4. Remove the bolt (labeled C) and sensor clamp (labeled D).

    5. Remove the 2 bolts (labeled E) and 2 sensor clamps (labeled F).

    6. for RH:
      1. Disconnect the pad wear indicator connector (labeled G).
      2. Remove the bolt (labeled H) and sensor clamp (labeled I).
      3. Disconnect the connector (labeled J) from the front speed sensor.

        NOTE:
        • Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
        • Prevent foreign matter from adhering to the speed sensor.
    7. for LH:

      Disconnect the connector (labeled J) from the front speed sensor.

      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
      • Prevent foreign matter from adhering to the speed sensor.
  5. DISCONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY  (See DISASSEMBLY )
  6. REMOVE FRONT DISC  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    HINT:

    The front speed sensor is a component of the front axle hub sub-assembly. If the sensor malfunctions, replace the front axle hub sub-assembly.

    1. Remove the front axle hub (see REMOVAL ).
