Steering Angle Sensor: Removal

NOTE: While the battery is connected, even if the power switch is OFF, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed or the door courtesy switch turns on. Therefore during servicing of the brake system components, do not operate the brake pedal or open/ close the doors while the battery is connected.
  1. PRECAUTION 
    CAUTION: Be sure to read the "PRECAUTION" thoroughly before servicing (see PRECAUTION ).
  2. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT MAT SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  3. REMOVE BATTERY SERVICE HOLE COVER LH  (See REMOVAL )
  4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Disable the AUTO TILT AWAY function by changing the customize parameter (see CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS ).
      NOTE: Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the AUTO TILT AWAY function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing the operation.

      HINT:

      Performing the above operation causes the AUTO TILT AWAY function to be disabled when the power switch is turned OFF

    2. Turn the power switch ON (IG) Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column
    3. Turn the power switch OFF and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal
      CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
      NOTE:
      • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (see INITIALIZATION ).
      • After the power switch is turned OFF, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the power switch OFF, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  5. REMOVE BATTERY SERVICE HOLE COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE SERVICE PLUG GRIP  (See REMOVAL )
  7. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  8. REMOVE SWITCH AND VOLUME CASE  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE STEERING PAD  (See REMOVAL )
  11. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  (See Identifying Identifying REMOVAL )
  12. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (w/o Driver Monitor Camera)  (See REMOVAL )
  13. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (w/ Driver Monitor Camera)  (See REMOVAL )
  14. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE WITH STEERING SENSOR  (See REMOVAL )
  15. REMOVE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR 
    1. Detach the 6 claws and remove the steering sensor.
