Fuel System: Precaution

BEFORE WORKING ON FUEL SYSTEM
1. Do not work near an open flame.
2. Keep gasoline away from rubber and leather parts.
3. Perform the "DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE" procedures below before disconnecting the fuel line to prevent gasoline from spilling out.
DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE
CAUTION:
- The "DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE" procedures must be performed before disconnecting any part of the fuel system.
- After performing the "DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE" procedures, pressure will remain in the fuel line. When disconnecting the fuel line, place a cloth or equivalent over fittings to reduce the risk of fuel spray.
1. Remove the rear seat cushion assembly.
2. Remove the rear floor No. 2 service hole cover.

3. Disconnect the connector.
4. Start the engine. After the engine has stopped, turn the ignition switch OFF.
  HINT:
  
  DTC P0171, P0174 (system too lean) may be set.
5. Check that the engine does not start.
6. Remove the fuel tank cap, and let the air out of the fuel tank.
7. Connect the connector.
8. Install the rear floor No. 2 service hole cover.

9. Install the rear seat cushion assembly.
FUEL SYSTEM
1. When disconnecting the high fuel pressure line, a large amount of gasoline will spill out, so observe the following procedures:
  1. Discharge the fuel system pressure.
  2. Disconnect the fuel pump main tube.
  3. Drain the fuel that remains inside the fuel pump main tube.
  4. To protect the disconnected fuel pump main tube from damage and contamination, cover it with a plastic bag.

  5. Put a container under the connection part.
2. Observe the following precautions when disconnecting the fuel tube connectors (quick type):
  1. Check for dirt and foreign matter in the pipe and around the connector. Clean if necessary and then disconnect the connector.
  2. Disconnect the connector with your hands.
  3. If the pipe and connector are stuck together, push and pull the connector until they separate. Do not use tools to separate the pipe and connector.

  4. Check for dirt and foreign matter on the pipe seal's surface. Clean if necessary.
  5. Put the pipe and connector ends in plastic bags to prevent damage and dirt contamination.
3. Follow these precautions when connecting the fuel tube connector (quick type):
  1. Match the axis of the connector with the axis of the pipe, and push in the connector until the connector makes a "click" sound. If the connection is too tight, apply a small amount of new engine oil on the tip of the pipe.

  2. Check if the pipe and connector are securely connected by trying to pull them apart.
  3. Check for fuel leaks.
4. Observe the following precautions when handling a nylon tube:
  CAUTION:
  - Do not twist the connection part of the nylon tube and the quick connector when connecting them.
  - Do not bend or twist the nylon tube.
  - Do not remove the EPDM protector on the outside of the nylon tube.
  - Do not close the piping by bending the nylon tube.
CHECK FOR FUEL LEAKS
1. Make sure that there are no fuel leaks anywhere on the fuel system after doing maintenance (see ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION ).
