System Outline

* In the pre-collision seat belt (PSB), the seat belt is retracted by a motor upon receiving a signal from the pre-collision sensor (Millimeter wave radar sensor assembly + distance control ECU assembly) and skid control ECU assembly, to optimize the restraint performance.

* The skid control ECU assembly sends the trigger signal to the seat belt control ECU through CAN communication when it detects certain vehicle conditions such as a vehicle spin, under-steer or sudden braking. The seat belt control ECU operates the PSB upon receiving the signal.

* The pre-collision sensor detects on-coming vehicles and objects which are on the road ahead by using a millimeter wave radar and it also determines in advance whether a collision is unavoidable from information such as the position, speed and on-coming route of the object. The driving support ECU sends a signal to seat belt control ECU through CAN communication to activate the PSB motor to retract the seat belt before a crash. This function works when the vehicle speed is below 5 km/h if the conditions are right.

* If the pre-collision system (PCS) fails, the words 'CHECK PCS will be shown on the multi information display in the meter. The exclusive PCS warning lamp is then lit up. When the system is not available due to dirt on the radar however, 'PCS DISABLED NOW' is displayed instead and the warning lamp blinks.
