Data Link Diagnostics

  1. Hook-up New Generation Star (NGS) scan tester. See EQUIPMENT HOOK-UP. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Highlight and select DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS, press trigger to start multiplex communication network link test.
  2. If NGS scan tester display shows CIRCUIT 914 (+) = 0000 and CIRCUIT 915 (-) = 0000, communication network is okay, proceed to ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST or desired testing mode. If NGS scan tester display shows other than CIRCUIT 914 (+) = 0000 and CIRCUIT 915 (-) = 0000, go to next step.
  3. If NGS scan tester display shows CIRCUIT 914 (+) = 0200 and CIRCUIT 915 (-) = 0200, this indicates all modules except cellular phone module are responding. If vehicle does not have a factory installed cellular phone, communication network is okay, proceed to desired self-testing mode. If vehicle is equipped factory installed cellular phone and NGS scan tester display shows other than CIRCUIT 914 (+) = 0000 and CIRCUIT 915 (-) = 0000, module communication network has detected a fault, go to COMMUNICATION NETWORK FAILURE in TESTING.
