Description & Operation

The remote keyless entry system consists of a Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module, Driver Seat Module (DSM), Generic Electronic Module (GEM), hand-held transmitter(s), keyless entry keypad and necessary wiring. Remote keyless entry system allows driver to lock/unlock all doors and liftgate, arm/disarm anti-theft system, activate illuminated entry, activate memory settings and activate personal alarm.

To unlock driver's door, press UNLOCK button on transmitter. This also disarms anti-theft system and through a signal sent to GEM, illuminates interior lights and running board lights (if equipped). RAP module also sends a signal to DSM indicating which remote transmitter has been used to determine which personality settings are to be used, and will adjust driver's seat and mirrors to memory presets (if enabled). To unlock all doors and liftgate, press UNLOCK button a second time within 5 seconds. To lock all doors, press LOCK button once. This also arms anti-theft system. To confirm all doors are locked, press LOCK button again. Horn will sound and doors will lock again. If any door is open or ajar, the horn will sound two short chirps. To activate personal alarm, press PANIC button. Horn will sound and exterior lights will flash for a maximum of 3 minutes. To deactivate security alarm, press PANIC button again or turn ignition switch to ACC or RUN position.

Autolock feature (if equipped, manual transmission vehicles have this feature disabled at the factory) will lock all doors automatically each time vehicle is driven under the following conditions:

• Ignition switch is in RUN/ACC position and autolock is enabled.
• Shift control selector is shifted into REVERSE or any gear passed REVERSE position.
• All doors are closed when driver releases brake pedal.

After initial lock, all doors will automatically relock when any door is opened and then closed followed by brake pedal release and key is in RUN or ACC. Personality feature, if enabled, allows individual transmitter presets for seat, pedal (if equipped) and mirror positions into memory. Autolock and personality modes can be enabled/disabled using New Generation Star (NGS) tester and Ford Service Function Card or keyless entry keypad.
