Removal And Installation: Generator: Removal

NOTE: The radial arm adapter is a serviceable item. Do not replace the generator if the radial arm adapter is the only concern.

All vehicles 

  1. Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, BATTERY MOUNTING & BATTERY CABLES article.
  2. Remove the engine cover.

    3.7L vehicles 

  3. Position the upper radiator hose and remove the radiator hose support cradle.

    All vehicles 

  4. Position the generator protective cover, remove the B+ nut and position the B+ terminal.
  5. Disconnect the generator electrical connector and position the harness.

    3.5L non-Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) and 3.7L vehicles 

  6. Remove the cooling fan assembly. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM article.
  7. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner and remove the accessory drive belt from the generator.

    3.5L GTDI vehicles 

  8. Remove the A/C compressor. For additional information, refer to HVAC - CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM article.

    All vehicles 

  9. Remove the upper generator nut and stud.
  10. Loosen the lower generator bolt.
  11. Remove the generator.
