Throttle Positioner Solenoid Valve (3-Way Solenoid Valve)

  1. Disconnect vacuum hose from 3-way solenoid-to-servo diaphragm at servo diaphragm. Disconnect vacuum hose from 3-way solenoid, to intake manifold (California models) or to fast idle solenoid (Federal models), at solenoid.
  2. Blow air through servo diaphragm hose; air should exhaust from intake manifold port of solenoid (California models) or fast idle solenoid port (Federal models).
  3. Disconnect electrical connector from solenoid valve. On Federal models, remove cap from additional port on solenoid. On all models, apply 12V to 1 terminal of solenoid and ground other using jumper wire.
  4. Blow air through servo diaphragm hose; air should exhaust from air filter (California models) or from uncapped port (Federal models). Replace solenoid valve if it does not respond as outlined. See Fig 1
Fig 1: Testing Throttle Positioner Solenoid Valve (3-Way Solenoid) The Federal solenoid valve differs by having an additional port (plugged) instead of air filter.
