Injection Pump Timing
- Remove fuel injection pipes. Remove service hold cover on clutch housing. Align TDC timing mark on flywheel with indicator pin. Remove hydraulic head plug on injection pump.
- Mount Dial Indicator (49 9140 074) into plug hole on hydraulic head. Tip of dial's pointer should touch plunger end of pump and dial should indicate .08" (2.0 mm). See Fig 1 . In order to mount dial indicator, delivery valve should be removed as an assembly. When reinstalling, use new gasket.
- Turn flywheel counterclockwise until timing mark on crankshaft pulley moves from TDC to 30-50° counterclockwise of TDC. See Fig 2 . Set dial indicator to zero. Now turn flywheel clockwise to align TDC timing mark on flywheel with indicator pin. If properly timed, dial indicator should read .0392-0408" (.98-1.02 mm).
- If not within specifications, warm engine, then loosen pump attaching nuts and bolts and adjust timing by moving pump until cam lift becomes .0392-0408" (.98-1.02 mm). If timing is advanced (more than specifications) turn pump clockwise. Reverse procedure if timing is retarded.
