Glow Plug System

When ignition switch is in the "ON" position, glow indicator lamp comes on for 3 seconds, then goes off. Glow plug relay No. 1 comes on for about 6 seconds, then goes off. Glow plug relay No. 2 comes on if temperature of coolant is 86°F (30°C) or less.

When ignition switch is turned to "START" position, glow plug relay No. 1 cycles on and off. Glow plug relay No. 2 is kept on during the time the switch is in "START" position.

With normal afterglow function, No. 2 glow plug relay will turn off when coolant temperature exceeds 86°F (30°C) or when vehicle speed switch is closed. Also, at above 6 volts of glow plug voltage, No. 2 relay shuts off.
