NO-START, FLOODED ENGINE - COLD START PROCEDURE
YEAR(S): 1986-87
MANUFACTURER: Mazda
MODEL(S): RX-7
ISSUE & TIP
If the engine is flooded and won't start on a 1986-87 Maxda RX-7 rotary, try this:
- Remove the EGI main fuse in the underhood fuse panel.
- Open the throttle fully, then crank the engine for approximately 30 seconds.
- Reinstall the fuse, fully open the throttle, and crank the engine. It should start now. If not, repeat the procedure. A rotary engine must spin fast while cranking. A good strong battery and starter are a must. There is a full throttle fuel cut switch on 1988 and later RX-7s to help with this problem. To prevent most flooding problems, always run the engine until it comes off fast idle after a cold start.
