Coasting Air

  1. Bring engine to normal operating temperature and run at idle. Disconnect neutral switch (M/T) or inhibitor switch (A/T), located on left side of transmission. Remove and plug vacuum hose at idle-up solenoid for electrical load, located next to fuel filter. See Fig 1 .

  2. Increase engine speed to 3000 RPM. Decelerate and ensure that a vacuum is present at idle-up solenoid port between 1500-2300 RPM. If vacuum is not present, test idle-up solenoid.
  3. With engine off, push dashpot rod in. Ensure slight pressure is felt and rod moves slowly into dashpot. Quickly release rod, ensuring rod returns quickly.
  4. Bring engine to normal operating temperature and run engine at idle. Connect a tachometer. Increase engine speed to 3000 RPM. Slowly reduce engine speed and ensure dashpot rod contacts throttle lever at 2650-2950 RPM. If not within specifications, adjust by turning dashpot.
