Fuel Pressure
CAUTION:
Constant fuel pressure is maintained in fuel lines and component parts at all times. Relieve pressure before attempting to open system for testing. Do not allow fuel to flow onto engine or electrical parts or allow an open flame in area while testing fuel system components.
- Allow engine to cool before removing fuel hose. Cover the hose connection with a shop towel because fuel will be sprayed out under pressure when hose is disconnected.
- To release fuel pressure, disconnect negative battery cable and disconnect fuel hoses at fuel filter. Connect fuel pressure gauge, using "T" fitting, between fuel filter and distribution pipe.
- Reconnect negative battery cable and turn ignition on. Connect the terminals of fuel pump check connector with a jumper wire. Fuel pump check connector is located on firewall, under windshield motor on 323 and under atmospheric pressure sensor on 626.
- Check to see if pressure is within test pressure specification. See FUEL PRESSURE SPECIFICATIONS table. Start engine and allow to idle.
- Verify that pressure is within Idle Pressure specification given in FUEL PRESSURE SPECIFICATIONS table. If not within specifications, check the fuel filter and the fuel pump pressure.
