BULB CHECK FALSE ALARMS
YEAR(S): 1987
MANUFACTURER: Mazda
MODEL(S): 626
ISSUE & TIP
Some 1987 Mazda 626 models with bulb check diagnostic circuits may indicate a problem with a tail or stop light bulb. After checking the rear lights, you will probably find that all of the bulbs are okay.
The actual cause of the problem is a loose ground connection for the tail light housing. This increases the circuit resistance, fooling the bulb check circuit into thinking that a bulb has burned out, and turning on the dash warning light. In spite of the dash warning, the tail and stop light bulbs will continue to function normally. Repair the poor ground to correct the false alarm.
