Component Testing: Dashpot
- Check that dashpot rod does not keep throttle lever from returning to idle stop. Quickly operate throttle lever fully and make sure dashpot rod extends quickly.
- Release throttle lever and make sure throttle lever returns slowly to idle position after it has touched dashpot rod. Connect tachometer to engine. Start engine and warm to operating temperature. Make sure engine operates at specified idle speed.
- Increase engine speed to 3500 RPM. Slowly decrease engine speed checking that dashpot rod contacts lever at between 2700-3100 RPM. Adjust by loosening lock nut and turning dashpot. See Fig 1
