Trailing Side IGNITOR
CAUTION:
When checking coil with ignitor as shown in following procedure, the high-tension leads must remain connected to the coil. If leads are disconnected, high voltage ignition sparks may occur.
- Disconnect 2-prong connector. Connect voltmeter between 2-prong connector as shown. See Fig 1. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. Ensure voltage is about 12 volts.
- Turn ignition switch to "OFF" position. Disconnect voltmeter and negative battery cable. Reconnect 2-prong connector. Disconnect 4-prong connector and connect Ignitor Checker (49 F108 002) to 4-prong connector of coil with ignitor.CAUTION: Do not misconnect ohmmeter leads. Ensure "+" lead goes to ground and "-" lead goes to "B" wire. Be sure negative battery cable is disconnected before removing "B" or "L" wires from coil with ignitor, or system will be damaged.
- Disconnect "B" and "L" wires from coil with ignitor. Reconnect negative battery cable. Connect an ohmmeter between "B" wire and ground. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. Set "SW1" switch of ignitor checker to "T1" position. While checking ohmmeter, push up "SW2" switch. Ohmmeter pointer needle should jump to about 1/3 scale, then drop. See Fig 2.
- Turn ignition switch to "OFF" position. Disconnect ohmmeter. Connect ohmmeter between "L" wire and ground. Ensure ohmmeter leads are not misconnected. The "+" lead should go to ground and "-" lead should go to wire.
- Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. Set "SW1" switch of ignitor checker to "T2" position. While checking ohmmeter, push up "SW2" switch. Ohmmeter pointer needle should jump to about 1/3 scale, then drop. If necessary, replace ignitor.
