Air By-Pass Solenoid Valve (Non-Turbo)

  1. Disconnect coolant thermosensor and connect a 2000-ohm resistor to the terminals of thermosensor connector. Using a voltmeter, connect one probe to Brown/Yellow terminal of air by-pass solenoid valve. Connect other probe to ground. Start and run engine, checking that voltage drops from 12 volts to zero volts after engine has run 17 seconds.
  2. Disconnect air by-pass solenoid valve connector. Using a volt/ohmmeter, attach probes to terminals of air by-pass solenoid valve connector. Check that there is 10.7-12.3 ohms resistance. See Fig 1 . If not, replace air by-pass solenoid valve.
