NOTE: Self-powered timing light may not operate with this system. Use vehicle powered timing light.
  1. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Ensure all electrical accessories are off. Ensure idle speed is set within specification.
  2. Shut off engine. Install timing light on "L-1" (lower front) high tension lead. This is referred to as the leading side.
  3. Start engine and note that Yellow timing mark on pulley and indicator are aligned. Timing on leading side should be within specification. See IGNITION TIMING SPECIFICATIONS table.

  4. If timing requires adjustment, remove blind cap. Loosen crank angle sensor lock bolt. Rotate crank angle sensor to align timing marks. Once leading side is within specification, repeat procedure on "T-2" (upper front). This is referred to as the trailing side. This is the Red timing mark.
  5. Trailing side timing should be within specification. See IGNITION TIMING SPECIFICATIONS table. Tighten sensor lock bolt to 70-96 INCH lbs. (8-11 N.m). Install new blind cap.
  6. To check advance, connect timing light to "L-1" (lower front) high tension lead. Increase engine speed and note that timing advances. Remove timing light.
NOTE: During deceleration, timing will drop to a certain point momentarily then return to specification.
