EGR Control Valve Test

  1. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Run engine at idle. Disconnect EGR control valve vacuum hose and plug hose. If engine does not idle smoothly, clean exhaust gas passage in EGR valve or replace EGR valve. Before replacing EGR valve, check intake air and control systems.
  2. Connect hand-held vacuum pump and apply 1.6-2.4 in. Hg to EGR valve. If engine does not run rough or stall, check EGR passage for blockage or replace EGR valve.
