Keyless Entry System Inoperative

  1. Check 15-amp ROOM fuse. If fuse is blown, replace fuse (repair wiring as necessary). If fuse is okay, replace transmitter battery. See TRANSMITTER SERVICING  . Press LOCK or UNLOCK button. If doors lock/unlock, discard old battery.
  2. If doors do not lock/unlock, open trunk and located keyless unit 4-pin electrical connector. Measure voltage at Blue/Red wire terminal of keyless unit connector. If battery voltage is not present, repair Blue/Red wire between 15-amp ROOM fuse and keyless unit.
  3. If battery voltage is present, disconnect keyless unit connector. Check continuity between ground and Black wire terminal of keyless unit connector. If continuity does not exist, repair Black wire between keyless unit and ground. If continuity exists, reconnect keyless connector and go to next step.
  4. Measure voltage at terminals 1P (Purple wire) and 2I (Red/Green wire) of CPU connectors. SeeFig 1 . If 5 volts is not present at both terminals, check CPU. See CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT (CPU)  under COMPONENT TESTING. If 5 volts is present at both terminals, go to next step.
  5. Measure voltage at Purple wire and Red/Green wire of keyless unit connector. If 5 volts is not present at both terminals, repair Purple wire and/or Red/Green wire between keyless unit and CPU. If 5 volts is present at both terminals, go to next step.
  6. Replace transmitter and change transmitter ID code. See TRANSMITTER SERVICING  . If keyless entry system operates, discard old transmitter. If keyless entry system does not operate, replace keyless unit. See KEYLESS UNIT R & I  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
