Idle Speed & Ignition Timing

Ensure idle speed and base ignition timing are set to specification. See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS and IGNITION TIMING SPECIFICATIONS tables. If necessary, see ADJUSTMENTS - 2.0L article.

⁽¹⁾	Place automatic transmission in Park.

⁽²⁾	Connect jumper wire between terminals TEN and GRD of data link connector.

⁽³⁾	Use Super Star II Tester (49-UN01-056) connected to data link connector to verify idle speed.

⁽²⁾	Connect jumper wire between terminals TEN and GRD of data link connector.

⁽³⁾	Remove shorting bar from the double-wire SPOUT connector located in front corner of engine compartment near main fuse box.
