Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Installation

  1. Ensure vehicle front wheels are in straight-ahead position and steering column shaft alignment mark is at 12 o'clock position. If installing NEW clockspring, depress Yellow hub lock and rotate White hub about 1/4 turn clockwise until arrow lines up the shaft lock (Yellow loop). Release hub lock. Position clockspring with shaft lock at top and slide clockspring onto steering column shaft.
  2. If installing original clockspring, position Black housing, aligning 3 pins on back of clockspring with 3 hole in steering column lock cylinder housing. Push clockspring firmly until retaining clips engage.
  3. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. On NEW clockspring, unlock clockspring by pulling up and removing Yellow loop at top of clockspring. Route clockspring wiring down column and connect to wire harness. Install upper and lower shrouds.
  4. Install driver-side air bag module and steering wheel. Reconnect positive, and then negative battery cables. Activate air bag system. Observe AIR BAG warning light to verify system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
