2.0L M/T & 2.5L

  1. Connect NGS scan tool (49 T088 0A0) to Data Link Connector (DLC-2) located under left side of dash. See Figure . Using NGS tool, select PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD and monitor RPM.
  2. Ensure idle speed is correct. See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS  table. If idle is speed is not as specified, adjust as necessary. See IDLE SPEED & MIXTURE  . If idle speed is as specified, proceed as follows. If System Selector (49 B019 9A0) is not available, go to step  4 . If System Selector is available, go to next step.
  3. Connect System Selector (49 B019 9A0) to DLC. Set switch "A" on SYSTEM SELECTOR to Data Link Connector (DLC-1 ). Set TEST SWITCH to SELF-TEST. Go to step  6 .
  4. If System Selector (49 B019 9A0), is not available, use a jumper wire and ground terminal No. 10 of DLC-1. See Figure . DLC-1 is located next to battery. Go to next step.
  5. On all applications, connect timing light to high-tension lead No. 1 and check timing. See Figure . For timing specifications, see IGNITION TIMING SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  6. If ignition timing is not within specification, loosen distributor hold down bolts. Rotate distributor until timing marks are aligned. Tighten lock bolts.

2.5L 10 @ 650 10 @ 650
(1) Place automatic transmission in Park.
(2) Distributor can not be rotated to adjust ignition timing. Check distributor installation.
