Fuel Pump Relay

  1. Crank engine and listen for operation of fuel pump relay. Relay is located in fuse/relay box in left rear of engine compartment. If relay makes a clicking noise, relay is okay. If relay does not make a clicking noise, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove fuel pump relay. Using DVOM, measure resistance between fuel pump relay terminals No. 85 and 86. See Fig 1 . Resistance should be 40-120 ohms. Measure resistance between fuel pump relay terminal No. 85 and terminals No. 30 and 87. Resistance should be more than 10,000 ohms.
  3. Using DVOM, check for continuity between fuel pump relay terminals No. 85 and 86. Continuity should not exist. Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage to fuel pump relay terminals No. 85 and 86. Check continuity between fuel pump relay terminals No. 30 and 87. Continuity should exist. If specifications are not as specified, replace fuel pump relay.
