Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor

  1. If IAT sensor circuit is open or shorted, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) should set. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES article. If any DTCs are present, repair as necessary. If no DTCs are present, go to next step.
  2. To check IAT sensor, disconnect IAT sensor connector. IAT sensor is located in air intake assembly. Check for damaged or pushed out pins, corrosion and loose wires. Repair as necessary. Reconnect connector.
  3. Connect New Generation Star (49 T088 0A0) scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) 2. DLC is located under left side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, access DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK menu, and select PCM. Highlight and select PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD.
  4. Using scan tool, access IAT PID and record value. See the INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS  table. If IAT PID value is not as specified, remove IAT sensor. Place IAT sensor in a container of water with a thermometer and gradually heat water.
  5. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between IAT sensor terminals. See INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS  table. If resistance is not as specified, replace IAT sensor.
