Battery Drain Test

  1. Check For Battery Drain

Shut all doors and turn off all accessories. Disconnect negative battery cable. Connect an in-line ammeter between negative battery terminal and negative battery cable. Amperage draw should not exceed .05 amp. If amperage draw is greater than specified, go to next step. If amperage draw is as specified, system is okay.
  2. Locating Source Of Excessive Battery Drain

Ensure glove box light, luggage compartment light, or hood light is not causing draw. Pull instrument panel fuse box fuses, one at a time, until amperage draw reduces. If drain cannot be located, pull engine compartment fuses until draw reduces. Check component(s) and circuit in question.
